How to migrate to Nova Scotia?

Like many other Canadian provinces, Nova Scotia also has its own Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP), better known as Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Programme. It is an easy opportunity for eligible applicants to acquire the province’s Permanent Residency (PR). The objective of the specific programme is to recruit applicants with the ability to contribute towards the needs of the local labor market and meet the economic needs of the province.

Following are the various streams under which applicants may initiate their application:

  • the Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry,
  • the Nova Scotia Skilled Worker Immigration Stream,
  • the Nova Scotia Family Business Worker Immigration Stream,
  • the Nova Scotia Entrepreneur Stream, and
  • the Nova Scotia International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream.

Starting from January 1, 2016 the province has added two new categories, i.e., the NSNP Entrepreneur stream and the NSNP International Graduate Entrepreneur stream. Once they become fully operational, the province will nominate 40 to 50 applicants every year.

How the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Programme works?

The working of the programme consists of two prominent stages, the Nova Scotia Government recruits and selects applicants with the required experience, skills and education, who intend to become the permanent residents of the province.

Coming back to the stages, under the step one applicants are required to fill the application form, and if required, submit all the supporting documents and submit it to the concerned, authority for further processing. Under various streams the processing time varies which may be between six and seven months.

Now the step two: Apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Once you have received your nominee certificate within six months, you may apply to the immigration body for PR.

You along with your spouse/partner and immediate dependents must also meet the other requirements, such as you must be medically fit and otherwise should be admissible to the country. For a final decision on your application the IRCC may also call you for an interview.
