Highly Qualified Migrants Not The Best As Claimed, Alleges US Study
In a somewhat surprising development, the findings of a research conducted recently in the US shows that the so-called overseas-born highly-trained employees, arriving on the US Immigration soils, are not either of these–brightest or the best. According to the study, the people from abroad moving to the US on high Skilled Work Permits don’t have an edge–in any manner whatsoever—on the local Americans. The findings become public at a time when the Congress is facing strong pressure to make the regulations for the overseas movement of the supposed extremely trained people to the US less stringent.
Those who support the simplifying of the US high-skilled immigration laws assert that the Congress requires restraining the prerequisites for highly-trained immigrants shifting to the US. But, the findings of the recent research appear to suggest otherwise, and these in fact, seriously challenge such an observation.
The chief author of the research claims that several tech bosses favor drawing the overseas born high-skilled manpower to turn-up in America, via proffering them handsome and rewarding wages. He adds that that such employees from abroad (those arriving in the country as overseas students) lack any higher talent, as compared to the natives.
Glaring flaws in H-1B Permit Arrangement
He further says that the US H-1B Permit Scheme is battling serious loopholes even as these make it possible for the companies to receive the US Permits for the overseas-born college graduates, keen to arrive in the country for moderately lower wages, vis-à-vis those that come the way of the American STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) employees.
In the matters of faculties & credentials, the employees from abroad are not at par with their American counterparts (the natives with parallel education level & placed in similar age bracket). Further, such employees are unable to complement the native labor force not possessing STEM skills with the reason being global students involved with Computer Science courses–and equipped with American permits–filed submissions for lesser patents, took part in less selective colleges, and consequently had a lower likelihood of getting associated with research & development positions across the nation.
The US H-1B Permit Scheme is accordingly shaped to permit the non-citizens to turn-up and get involved with work activities in the nation on provisional permits. The study concludes that every year, a significant number of such employees from abroad arrive in the US to work on its soils for a provisional and a given time-frame.
